At Sheehy Municipal Sales and Service Center, investing in the future means creating opportunities for students to explore career paths, gain real-world experience, and connect classroom learning to industry applications. In April, we were proud to welcome students from Hermitage High School’s Auto Shop program for an immersive behind-the-scenes look at our Emergency Vehicle Technology (EVT) operations.
The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to see firsthand how the skills they are developing in the classroom translate into real-world automotive and municipal service careers.
Exploring Emergency Vehicle Technology in Action
Throughout the visit, students toured our facility and gained valuable insight into the specialized work involved in designing, outfitting, and maintaining municipal and emergency vehicles.
As they moved through the warehouse, students observed vehicles at various stages of the upfitting process, learning how specialized equipment, technology, and safety features are integrated to meet the unique needs of first responders, municipalities, and public service agencies.
The experience offered a closer look at the precision, craftsmanship, and technical expertise required to transform standard vehicles into highly functional emergency and municipal service units.
A Hands-On Look at Specialized Vehicles
One of the most exciting parts of the visit was the opportunity for students to step inside completed vehicles and experience their design and functionality firsthand.
Students explored a variety of specialized units, including prisoner transport vehicles, gaining a better understanding of how vehicle layouts, safety systems, and equipment are tailored to support specific operational requirements.
By seeing these vehicles up close, students were able to connect technical concepts learned in the classroom with practical applications used every day in the field.
Experiencing Technology Behind the Scenes
The day also included demonstrations of emergency lighting systems and public address (PA) equipment, giving students an inside look at the technology that helps emergency personnel communicate and operate safely during critical situations.
Watching these systems in action helped showcase the level of planning, engineering, and attention to detail involved in emergency vehicle upfitting. It also highlighted the important role technology plays in supporting public safety professionals and the communities they serve.
Supporting the Next Generation of Skilled Professionals
At Sheehy Municipal Sales and Service Center, we believe in supporting workforce development and helping students discover the many career opportunities available within the automotive and municipal services industries.
Experiences like this allow us to share our expertise, foster curiosity, and inspire future technicians, engineers, and industry professionals. By opening our doors to students, we can help bridge the gap between education and career exploration while encouraging the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
We are grateful to the students and educators from Hermitage High School for spending the day with us and look forward to continuing opportunities that promote learning, innovation, and career development within our community.
Together, we are helping build the future of the automotive and municipal services industries, one student at a time.
